Taymara needs YOU!
or at least would very much like you to join us
Come and help with our ever-expanding activities. You would get a chance to learn about our range of vessels, how to crew them, and ultimately – if you wish – to become a fully qualified powerboat coxswain.

After retiring from teaching I joined Taymara – rather selfishly to try to relive my youth!
Before teaching I was a “deck cowboy” in the Merchant Navy for 10 years. Signing on with Taymara and joining the welcoming, friendly team of volunteers was one of the best things I have done. The work Taymara does, enabling a wide variety of individuals and groups to enjoy the river and estuary, gives me real pleasure, and my contribution of a bit of seamanship and teaching skill, is valued, as is every member’s. My only complaint is that I can’t get them to speak “proper sailor talk”, but at least I have managed to regain (some of) my youth!
Meet Connor
I first joined Taymara in 2014 whilst I was still at high school. Over the course of my studies, I gained valuable experience in a whole range of subjects relating to vessel maintenance, boat handling navigation skills, and valuable knowledge about the local environment and ecology.
Volunteering with Taymara allowed me to gain much sought-after experience relating to working at sea, and subsequently several maritime based qualifications which allowed me to act as qualified-crew within the organisation.
The combination of voluntary experience, which Taymara offered, and academia spearheaded my career into the Merchant Navy.
