David Winch’s 27km row down the Tay on 17th June to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the RNLI.

20140510-20140510-140510 Dundee Courier story

Taymara is providing logistic support and escort on the Tay during David’s Final Rowing Challenge (as we have done on many other of David’s “final and last ever ” rows!).  At 74 years old with a history of heart bypass and prostate cancer, David is a far more enduring example of humanity than Mick Jagger, not to mention tougher and more resilient than Keith Richards (Keith only fell out of a coconut tree) …and he’s a lot more pleasant than both.
He puts one in mind of a quiet but determined Duracell Rabbit, rowing into the sunlight with a funny hat on.
We know David will complete this most demanding of challenges.
Please support him and assist him in his ambition to benefit Marie Curie and the RNLI …..but please don’t be daft enough to bet against him completing it.

Speaking as a Taymara skipper who has escorted David on several previous fundraising rows, this webmaster well understands the relevance of speeding tickets in relation to David’s rowing. In 2012, as he pulled away from Badger yet again –  I increased engine speed to stay in close formation with him and then realised via Badger’s SatNav that he was rowing at a steady speed of 7.5 knots – not that far off 10mph. Try walking at this speed, or even running…. for 20 odd miles!
I called him on the radio to complain and he slowed down a bit, ever obliging.
